Research:

Question:
This is a very useful tool in forming thesis statement outlines. Take the main points from your research that you hope to wind your thesis around. Now convert this into a question. Make a list of all the possible responses. Narrow in on the ones that spell the objective behind writing the paper, define the topic and summarise the thesis into one concise statement.

Example: While both sides fought the Civil War over the issue of slavery, the North fought for moral reasons while the South fought to preserve its own institutions.

The question you may have probably asked is ‘why did the North and South fight the civil war?’ The thesis statement above gives you more than just a response that is to the point.

Tone:
Most thesis statement outlines fail to specify the tone of the statement. For this, one must decide on the tone of the thesis essay. Is it an argumentative essay thesis, explanatory thesis, or persuasive thesis paper? Accordingly match the tone of the research thesis paper and the thesis statement. Two different tones will only confuse the reader and may have them interpret your thesis wrongly.

Genre:
