The Components of Research Proposal Writing
Research proposal writing is not quite as difficult as you might be thinking. It can be much easier, in fact, once you familiarize yourself with the format. Knowing the format can help you create an outline. Creating an outline can help you craft the research proposal. You will know exactly what you need. It will be like having a map to help you through the whole writing process.
The format you need to use for research proposal writing is quite simple. Before you begin anything, however, one of the best things you can do for yourself is take a look at a research proposal example. An example can be absolutely invaluable. To be able to see, firsthand, how someone else set up their research proposal is monumentally helpful. You see, once students arrive at this point, they frequently find themselves asking, just what is a research proposal? Being able to see one up close can answer that question better than any definition. Not to mention, they are a great source of research proposal help.
The research proposal writing process starts with a description, name a one or two page overview describing the purpose of your research and the methods you intend to use. You need to write it clearly and concisely, so that even readers unfamiliar with the topic will be able to understand everything you are presenting in your proposal. Actually, this applies to the entire research proposal. It needs to be clear to laymen as well as experts.
The second section of your research proposal is the introduction. It begins with the literature review, which again, needs to be written in such a way that anyone will know what you are trying to say. The review itself contains background information – clinical, scientific; basically whatever applies to the subject of your paper; basically, it is a place where you will discuss literature which has already been published, specifically as it applies to your research and proposal. In general, at least in the proposal itself, the literature review does not need to be more than five pages long. Traditionally, between ten and twenty references will suffice.
The next subsection under the introduction heading is the rationale, which is just a short section including your hypothesis. It does not need to be longer than a page, and sometimes a paragraph is sufficient. The rationale needs to contain several important elements, such as short but thorough statements detailing the issue your research is dealing with, the methods you intend to use, and how the ultimate results will be significant to the subject matter.
The third second of the research proposal is the research design. In this section, you generally need a narrative about your project, you need to justify all the methods you will be using, and you often need a flow chart.
In short, research proposal writing is quite a lot like any other kind of academic writing. The only real differences lie in the fact that it is much more intensive – and much more important. That is why getting as much proposal help as you need is so important, and why a research proposal example can be so beneficial.
