Which Dissertation Research Methods Are at Your Disposal?

Before sitting down to write your proposal, before beginning your dissertation itself, it is crucial that you consider all the many dissertation research methods which are available to you.  The methods at your disposal can affect not only your research but also your paper in general so before committing to any specific idea, it is vital to look into each method.

Your dissertation ideas are directly related to what type of research you have to conduct and, more importantly, what methods are available to you.  You need not start worrying that you will necessarily be limited however, because there are a number of different dissertation research methods, beginning with the action method.  Here, you generally try to make your research strategies better and more comprehensive so that you can find a solution to the issue posed or discover proof for your argument.

There is also the classification research method.  This method relies on your ability to recognize the objects, subjects, topics, et cetera, of your research and/or paper, while attempting to understand them and to differentiate between each of them.

The experience research method involves using your intuition or personal, professional, and/or academic experiences to discover a solution for the problem you are presenting.  Depending on the nature and overall topic of your dissertation, however, this may or may not be the method for you.  As well, you need to consider what kind of effect this particular method will have on your dissertation methodology.

The experimental method is quite well known, akin to the scientific method.  When you go this route, you have to test your hypothesis extensively, generally by including practical tests yourself.

You can also implement participant observation.  Like the phrase itself implies, with this method you observe the way a single person or a group of people behaves and what actions they take, always in regards to the subject of your dissertation.

The statistical analysis research method is likely quite familiar.  It involves the collection of information, data, et cetera, which is then analyzed and explained within the course of dissertation writing.  In scientific papers especially, the information found by this method is a large part of the dissertation methodology.

As mentioned, the nature of your research and the subject of your dissertation are all important factors to consider when you are trying to decide on what method you are going to use.  Depending on those factors, one or more of these dissertation research methods may be write up your alley.  If, however, you cannot see how any of these methods would help with the particular dissertation ideas you have already formulated, there are other avenues available to you.  All you really need to do is discuss your ideas with a professor, advisor, mentor, or anyone with extensive knowledge in your chosen field of study.  They will be more than happy to offer dissertation help.

For the most part however, you need to choose the dissertation research methods which feel most right to you, and are going to benefit your paper the most.  After all, the methods you use are not going to take you very far if they do not help you prove your argument or solve your problem.
