Why Master Dissertations Are So Important
In academia, there is a purpose for everything; in the scheme of things, your thesis is as important as any research paper, and your Master dissertation is essential. Put simply, you cannot achieve your Master’s degree if you do not submit a well written, well thought out, and well researched one. There are several key factors involved in this writing process, which must be followed if you want your degree. Given how long and hard one has to work to receive a Master’s, the only option you really have is to work as hard as possible and turn in the best finished product you possibly can.
The first thing to consider when writing a Master dissertation is what, precisely, this project entails. You have to be totally committed. This type of dissertation requires hard work, complete dedication, impeccable research, and flawless writing. That alone makes many students extremely nervous, which is extremely understandable. After all, you know how much is at stake; that would put a lot of pressure on anyone’s shoulders. Knowing how meticulous the dissertation writing process is places a lot of pressure all on its own. However, believe it or not, this can be, if not easy, then at least not as hard as it might sound. You simply need to possess good organizational skills as well.
An MA dissertation is the culmination of many months of work. For some students, it might even take years to write theirs. Going in, you need to realize that there is more to a Master dissertation than the simple introduction, body, and conclusion format with which most of us are familiar. There is the dissertation methodology to consider, for example, which has to be particularly meticulous. This is what will help the reader understand your thought processes, why you chose the research methods you did, how they worked for you, and why they did or did not work in regards to your subject.
The literature review is also an important part of the MA dissertation. As explained in a recent post, a literature review does not involve reading a book, play, or poem and describe whether or not you liked it. Instead, you are backing up your argument with previously published works. You need to make sure not only to choose relevant and well written works, you also need to make sure that you present them in such a way that they unequivocally prove or help prove your initial hypothesis.
Understandably, you need to choose wisely when picking a topic for your Master dissertation. You need to not only consider how much you know about a subject, but also whether or not too much research has been done about it. Whenever possible, the dissertation writing process needs to be as original as you can make it. It also needs to be interesting to your readers and, most importantly, relevant to your chosen field of study.
